"Timbuktu is a cri de coeur against violence and intolerance, but what makes it so unusually compelling as a protest film is that it's also a richly poetic work of cinema - witty, beautiful and even, sobering though it is, highly entertaining." 5/5 The Observer

SEPTEMBER FILM - 'A Touch Of Evil' Monday 7th Sept 8.15pm at The Connaught

September's film is Orson Welles' 1958 noir classic 'A Touch of Evil'. Beginning with one of the most impressively choreographed one track shots in cinematic history, the film delves deep into the dark underbelly of corruption on the Mexican / American border with a suitable brooding Welles as the cop on the wrong side of the law.

A real gem of a film, and a rare chance to see the re-mastered print on the big screen.

Cost is £7 for non-members, or free for members who gain access to 12+ films a year plus have free use of our extensive DVD library.

AUGUST FILM - Wild Tales Monday 3rd Aug 8.15pm

August screening is the highly acclaimed Argentinian film 'Wild Tales' which was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards.

Based around a series of vignettes on the theme of revenge it is a stylish darkly comedic film that will make you think twice about crossing someone.

Post script:

WILD TALES was a massive hit with the audience - by far the best reaction we have ever had to a film.
Of those who voted 72% thought it 'Outstanding' / 26% 'Very Good' / 2% Good with 0 Average or Poor giving it a WFC score of 9.38 / 10 ( compared to IMDB 8.2) which blows IDA out of the water (WFC score of 8.82 / 10) for film of the year and indeed all time best WFC score. We have the film on DVD so if you missed it members canborrow it to see what all the fuss was about.

JULY FILM: '71' - Monday 6th July 8.15pm at the Connaught

July's film is the much praised '71' (UK 2014 dir Yann Demange), a tale of a young soldier who gets separated from his unit during a riot in Belfast and has to make his way back through the hostile streets.

In some ways a flipside to Carol Reed's 'Odd Man Out' (1947) which had a republican outlaw making his way through the backstreets of post-war Belfast, '71' has met with universally good reviews "a taut nail-biting thriller" (The Guardian), "blindingly strong"(The Telegraph), with a strong central performance from Jack O'Connell ('This Is England') as the young soldier stranded in an alien and deadly landscape.

The film is at 8.15pm at The Connaught, Worthing. It is free for members, or £7 for non-members. Membership is £35 / year for 12 films, and includes use of the Worthing Film Club DVD library, and also allows reduced price entry for guests.  Details of how to join can be found here
